Goff Creek Pottery Retail Sign

“SHOW ME YOUR GARDEN and I shall tell you what you are.” Alfred Austin

At Goff Creek Pottery, gardens is the main focus, where every item is handcrafted using traditional wheel throwing and hand building methods. Each piece , whether it is a flower pot, toad house, finial, bird bath, or a sculpture, is then fired to extremely high temperatures, to produce a sturdy work of art that will last for many years to come. It is tested to withstand temperatures of -20F, so these frost proof pieces can stay out both summer and winter. They have the rich look of terra cotta, with a durability that will long outlast terra cotta.

Inspiration for this unique gardenware comes from classical architecture and story books. You won’t find any mass production here, or any two items exactly alike.

Here, in the Finger Lakes district of New York state, Mary Lynn and Robert are the artists who live and have their studio here. The pottery gets its name from the historic Goff House (circa 1830) where it is housed. At one time, this was the only settlement along a 40 mile stagecoach line, when William Goff settled and built his family home here, founding several mills, a post office, inn, distillery and tailor shop.

In making a sign that would be both distinctive, welcoming and fun (reflecting the nature of many of their creations), we went to town with hand sculpted dimensional artwork. The main text was hand carved and gilded with 23kt gold leaf, while the other letters were carved and painted, with groove accents gold as well.
