Treasured Teapot Retail Sign

A UNIQUE ENTERPRISE, Treasured Teapot is a museum/emporium that is part of Bygone Beautys in the village of Leura in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. The tearooms, showrooms and retail shop draw many visitors each year – and a main attraction is the largest private collection of teapots in the world – started in 1974 and now numbering more than 4,000, ninety percent of the items being acquired within Australia.

The proprietor, Maurice (known as The Teapot Man) is usually at the front desk, and can be identified by his bow tie. (Some of the staff claim to be good example of bygone beautys themselves!) But the best proof of the business’ success is heard in visitors’ comments: ‘It’s a treasure trove!’ or ‘What an unexpected surprise!’

This custom handcrafted sign was commissioned by Bygone Beautys to highlight their famous teapot collection. The teapot featured on the sign was chosen from among the whole collection to be copied in detail and hand sculpted and painted. The retro logo was carefully hand painted, while the main text was scallop carved using hand gouges and gilded with 23kt gold leaf, as well as the carved and gilded accent border. The sign is an elegant fit to this great little business, and should last for many years to come.
