Ohiopyle Prints Business Sign

OHIOPYLE PRINTS is located in the borough of Ohiopyle, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Although the official population was a grand total of 59 at the last census, the place is swarming with people on weekends and in the warm months of the year (in fact, millions annually). One of the main attractions is the Youghiogheny (pronounced yawki-gay-nee) River Gorge, whose river offers some of the best whitewater boating in the whole of the eastern states. The name ‘Ohioyle’ derives from the Lenape phrase ‘ahi opilhale’ meaning ‘it turns very white’ – an apt description of the rapids and waterfalls on the river.

OP had its beginnings more than 25 years ago in the back of an old school bus. Its founders, who worked as river guides, built a printing press on which they turned out custom T shirts. The business grew quickly and eventually expanded into a large manufacturing facility with over 160 workers, supplying more than 10,000 outlets in all 50 states as well as the local clientele. ‘My Town Originals’ is the name of a line of souvenir products that are custom made for home town retailers.

This handcrafted sign took their logo and dimensionalized the whitewater wave. The main text was hand carved and gilded with 23kt gold leaf. Other text was carved and painted – all using top of the line Dulux Weathershield paints – highly UV resistant, Australian engineered exterior acrylics. Made of high density urethane, the sign has the look and feel of wood, with the advantage of being completely waterproof, making it much longer lasting.
