Thomas Barber Funeral Home Sign

THE CALLA LILY is one of the most lovely and popular flowers conveying a wealth of meanings – magnificence, purity, peace and beauty. Chosen for this tasteful funeral home sign in Petersburgh, New York, these flowers are the focal point. Also known as arum lilies, trumpet lilies or pig lilies, calla lilies originally came from Southern Africa and they come in a wide array of shades – from green, pink and purple to yellow and orange. The muse of artists for hundreds of years, they have been the choice for weddings and are also often used at funerals – since the white color especially symbolizes eternity and peace.

It is an interesting fact that the calla lily is not really a lily at all, nor is it a calla either, though this is its common name. It shares the same family though – the Araceae family. Native to a tropical climate (as far north as Madagascar) it became very popular in Europe and of course, in America as well.

In this case, calla lilies were beautifully hand painted on this sign which was designed by the customer using Danthonia’s sign designer tools. The artwork was chosen from among hundreds of options on the website, as well as the sign shape, size, colors, number of sides, text styles, edging, and rendering. Since the price showed live on the screen, the designer was able to budget his project as he went along. The main text was hand carved and gilded with 23kt gold leaf, while the subtext and oval accent were carved and painted.
