HAPPY HILL FARM ACADEMY in Granbury, Texas (southwest of Fort Worth) is a private international boarding and day school, K through 12th grade, that has been operating since 1975. Fully-accredited, it was started by Ed and Gloria Shipman. Ed was a local pastor who gathered together 20 students in a mobile home. Over the next years, the facilities continued to expand, reaching out to many of the area’s most vulnerable and at-risk children – many of them from inner-city Fort Worth and Dallas. The school is now a secure haven for hundreds of children who don’t have the opportunity to live at home with families. The school reaches out to these boys and girls, giving them a sound base of knowledge and skills that they will need to succeed when they continue on in life, including 4-H agricultural training, music, sports, drama and counselling as well as academics. The school includes a training center and guest lodge located on a 500 acre campus and working farm, thanks to a generous donation from The Pickens Foundation, who offer grants with the aim of improving lives through education, medical research, conservation and various initiatives for at-risk youths. Happy Hill is happy to welcome people who are interested in starting a similar program to come and live with the staff for longer periods of time to experience the school and see how it works. Pastor Shipman is sure that the Happy Hill program does not have to be unique, but can succeed and grow elsewhere.

This is one of two signs made for the school, with dimensional hand sculpted leaves and grapes, hand carved text, and dimensional banner.
