McIvor Creek Winery Sign

GARY AND CYNTHIA Harbor have been growing grapes on the granitic soil at McIvor Estate since 1997. Here, among the rolling hills and valleys surrounded by the Great Dividing Range, is the perfect spot for a vineyard. Partly owing to Cynthia's Italian heritage, they intentionally patterned their vineyard on an Italian mixed farm, so you will not only find grapes here. An oil and fruit productin olive grove as well as a small herd of Murray Grey breeding cows all share the property.

The olive grove was established in 1999 - Italian frantoio and corregiolo and Spanish manzanilla, among other varieties. Extra virgin olive oil is sold under the McIvor Estate label.

In the vineyard, grapes are hand picked. Since McIvor Estate is located at the southern end of the Heathcote wine region, vintage is quite a bit later than the rest of the region. This means that the wines have intense and lovely flavors. Red wines are processes with traditional methods - open fermentation and oak barrel aging for 12 months before bottling.

Varieties planted here are rossanne, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and marsanne among others. Of course, shiraz is the variety this region is best known for, and it is certainly grown at McIvor.

The cellar door is right on location and overlooks the vineyard. An outdoor wood-fired oven cranks out pizzas and, on special occasions, wet dishes and bread are baked here too. If you are in the mood, you can even play a game of bocce on the court.

The folks at McIvor Creek were looking for a stand out, hand crafted entrance sign. Detailed 3 dimensional sculpted artwork graces this quality sign and incise carved, gilded text adds the final touch.
