Penner Ash Winery Sign

PENNER ASH WINE CELLARS in the northern Willamette Valley of Oregon had its beginnings in 1998, when Lynn and Ron began crafting their small batches of Pinto Noir and Syrah under their own label. Inspired to carry on, they embarked full time in 2001 on the Penner Ash brand full time. Growing on small lots (each treated individually) and using indigenous-yeast fermentation, they also produce other wines, notably Riesling from local Willamette Valley grapes. This region is the home to two thirds of the state’s vineyards (more than 400 wineries, in fact) and is known internationally for its premier Pinot Noir. Geographically, it seems to offer the perfect combination – the sheltering Coast Range mountains to the west, and Cascades to the east keep the climate moist and cool, separating the valley from the more extreme weather and drier climate of eastern Oregon. Here, a long growing season and long springs are just the ticket for grape growers – not least of the advantages is the breath-taking beauty of the landscape. This natural beauty draws many visitors to the area as well, with Portland not far away.

The striking winery building at Penner Ash was completed in 2005. Surrounded by 80 acres, it perches on a hillside with a panoramic view of the Chehalem Valley and rolling mountains as far as the eye can see, including Mount Hood and Mount Jefferson.

In creating a series of signs for Penner Ash, it was important to keep the natural ambience of this beautiful location and the feeling of quality and care that go into every aspect of the enterprise. The hand carved text, gilded with 23kt gold, together with hand sculpted and painted artwork, made these signs a perfect fit with the folks at Penner Ash.
