Jakob's Lodge Property Sign

“YOU’LL NEVER PLOW A FIELD by turning it over in your mind.” (Irish proverb) The same goes for signs like this shingle sign we created for Leo and Carol Keutmann.

Jakob’s Lodge, located near Toowoomba in the Darling Downs of southern Queensland, is a thriving agricultural area. The first white settlers first moved into the area with its rich soil in the 1800s. Though local farmers are more likely to be seen steering a John Deere than a Clydesdale these days, there’s a passion in this area for tilling the land. Avid gardeners work their land each year in preparation for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. Toowoomba has the nickname ‘The Garden City’ and people come from all over the country to sip local wines, eat local produce and visit local gardens in the Hop-On, Hop-Off Garden Shuttle at the festival.

Perhaps you’ll attend this year’s flower festival, and maybe you’ll be shuttled to the garden of Jakob’s Lodge, where you will see this hand crafted sign hanging at the entrance to welcome all visitors.

The artwork is dimensional – hand sculpted and painted, while the main text is incise carved using hand chisels. It hangs from a Danthonia ‘wrought iron’ scroll hanger – which is really made of sturdy powder coated aluminium, so it won’t rust. Although it looks, weighs and feels exactly like wood, the sign is made of high density urethane – a closed cell foam that will not rot, warp or split like wood will over time. In other words, this sign will be doing its job for years to come at Jakob’s Lodge.
