Burstow Park Farm Sign

“EACH SUNNY DAY upon my way, a goat I pass; He has a beard of silver grey, A bell of brass. And all the while I am in sight he seems to muse, And stares at me with all his might and chews and chews. Upon the hill so thymy sweet with joy of Spring, He hails me with a tiny bleat of welcoming. Though half the globe is drenched with blood And cities flare, Contentedly he chews the cud and does not care…” Robert William Service, The Goat and I,

A handsome goat is the main feature on the Burstow Park property sign in Queensland, where the owner is a proud owner of a herd of Toggenburgs. Nicknamed Toggs, they are dairy goats, named after the area in Switzerland from which they originally hail, and they are considered the oldest registered breed. Ranging in color from a light fawn to dark chocolate brown, they are known for their distinctive white markings on the face. Good pets, as well as being quiet and gentle, they are inquisitive animals and are known for being the hardiest of all goats. On top of all that, they are remarkable milkers – in fact, it is a Toggenburg who holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for giving 1,140 gallons of milk in 365 days.

We had fun sculpting and painting this life-like goat, making the markings to the specifications of the customer. The text and accents were hand carved and gilded with 23kt gold leaf.
