Scone Town Welcome Signs

“A HORSE is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.” - Pam Brown

The Upper Hunter Valley in NSW Australia is certainly a great place to escape a mundane existence. Historically famous as a horse-rearing region where white picket fences show bright against the encompassing steep rocky hills. It’s picturesque, a place where film-makers revel and the rich and famous build their retreat homes.

Long before horse farms, Aboriginals frequented the area seeking food in the fertile river flats. Later gold seekers came panning the creeks. Today tourists are lured by the regions many attractions including Burning Mountain, the site of the world’s longest burning coal seam fire. Experts estimate it has been smoldering for the past 6,000 years!

Naturally, the town entry signs had to complement the region’s image. They were designed around the horse theme with a half-timbered barn and unique horse artwork for each locality.

The framing for the barn was made to look like weathered wood by wire-brushing the HDU sign substrate, painting it and fitting it together with HDU “wooden” pins.

Unique artwork was made for each town using black silhouettes against a simple chip-carved four-colour background. Simplicity is the key when designing artwork for drive by traffic.

So, whether people prefer riding horses, raising them, betting on them or simply watching them canter round the field, there’s no doubt that the entry signs to the Upper Hunter will turn heads and entice people to stay for a meal, a look around, or an overnight in this area.

Give us a try - we would love to carve you a beautiful town welcome sign.
