The Vigils Fishing Sign

β€˜TO GO FISHING is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of sun on blue water. It brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity toward tackle-makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, a quieting of hate, a rejoicing that you do not have to decide a darned thing until next week. And it is discipline in the equality of men - for all men are equal before fish.’ Herbert Hoover

The rainbow trout is a member of the salmon family and is considered one of the best game fish for fly fishermen and anglers of North America (and most important game fish west of the Rockies), though it has since be introduced around the world. Also known as redband trout, these beautiful fish are greenish-yellow with a pink streak on their sides, but their patterns and coloring can vary a lot depending on their age, habitat, etc. They can grow quite large (up to 4 feet long) – with the largest on record weighing in at 57 lbs. Found in cool streams and clear rivers and lakes, some rainbow trout (also known as called steelheads) will migrate to the sea, spending some years there, and returning to the stream of their birth to spawn.

The dimensional trout on this sign was hand sculpted and painted with artist acrylics. Letters were hand carved and gilded with 23kt gold. Accent lines were also incise carved and painted.
