Tomich Winery Sign

‘WINE IS ONE of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.’ Ernest Hemingway

The folks at Tomich Wines in South Australia would no doubt agree whole-heartedly with Hemingway on this point. It started back in John Tomich’s childhood when his family owned a vineyard near Mildura. Much later he went to the Adelaide University (after an already successful medical career) to gain a post graduate diploma in winemaking. Following this, he went on to the Institute of Masters of Wine in London to take their challenging Masters of Wine course. Randal Tomich, who originally managed farming properties with his brother, partners with his father and manages the development of the vineyard, right through to harvesting the grapes. After researching traditional methods, he went on to design his own innovative technology for ripping the soil. His ‘Vibersoiler’ is a vibrating machine that mixes topsoil with subsoil to improve the penetration of water and root growth, and it has since been exported to the USA.

This distinctive entrance sign for the winery was designed with elegance and tastefulness in mind, to reflect the pride taken in the Tomich quality product. The dimensional cluster of grapes was sculpted using hand gouges, while the script text and accents are carved and gilded with 23kt gold leaf to give the classy touch. Other text was carved and painted.
