27 Gorban St Hanging Sign

A HAKEA FLOWER is the featured artwork on this attractive house sign in Brisbane, Queensland. An unusual native plant (named after 18th century German botany enthusiast Christian Ludwig von Hake) there are actually some 149 species of hakea throughout the country, with the most diversity to be found in southwest Western Australia. Some plants have spidery flowers, some have long spearlike blossoms while others are globe shaped, such as the ones shown on this sign. Their colors, too, form a wide spectrum – from red, yellow and pink to purple, pale blue and white. Leaves also vary, from prickly and compound to long and smooth while seed pods, too, are amazingly different – from shapes that look like castanets to slug-like forms. The plant itself can reach from one to six meters in height.

The hakea shown here was painted by hand directly on the sign surface and was chosen from among hundreds of artwork options on Danthonia’s sign designer website. The text style, sign size, shape, colors, edging, etc. were all chosen by the customer to create their very own personalized house sign.

  • The sign is going well, and still looks brand new. As you can see from the photos, our sign works perfectly at our front gate. Designing our own sign gave me the confidence that I would get what I envisioned, and I did. The website tool was very simple to use and the turn around time in producing the sign itself was fantastic. Danthonia Designs were very helpful, particularly as they even matched the hanging bolts to our gate. I would highly recommend their services to anyone.
